Donna
S. Queeney’s primary interest has been in continuing professional
education, with a focus on the design, development, delivery, and evaluation
of educational activities to help professional practitioners maintain
and enhance their competence. In 1974, she became a part- time writer
for The Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program in The Pennsylvania
State University’s Continuing Education Public Information Office.
Four years later, she joined Planning Studies in Continuing Education
in a full-time capacity. From 1978 to 1991, she held a variety of positions
in that research unit, becoming its Director in 1985. Since 1991, she
has been Director of Research and External Relations for Continuing and
Distance Education. She also has served as an adult education faculty
member since 1983.
Dr. Queeney’s accomplishments are many. From 1980 to 1986, she was Assistant Director of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation-funded Continuing Professional Education Development Project. She served as Coordinator of the 1986-91 National Consortium of W.K. Kellogg Foundation- funded Continuing Professional Education Projects and as Chair of that group’s 1986 invitational conference on continuing professional education, A Call to Action, and their 1991 conference, An Agenda for Action. In 1991, with Clifford Baden of Harvard University, she founded the Leadership Institute for Continuing Professional Education, serving as co-chair and faculty member. In 1992-93, she founded and co-chaired the American Society for Training and Development’s Continuing Professional Education Network.
The Editor of The Journal of Continuing Higher Education (since 1985), Dr. Queeney has contributed to the literature of her field, including the book Assessing Needs in Continuing Education and numerous articles, reports, and book chapters. She is a widely sought speaker and presenter at professional conferences.
In recognition for her contributions, Dr. Queeney has received the Association for Continuing Higher Education’s Meritorious Service Award (1995), the National University Continuing Education Association’s Continuing Professional Education Individual Service Award (1991), Penn State Continuing Education’s Service to the Profession Award (1991), and the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education’s Continuing Professional Education Medallion (1990).
